Ackworth Art Society

local artist members worked collectively in 1975 to produce this huge mural depicting Ackworth scenes. It was framed by Peter Johnson at Oakleigh Crafts (Opposite Electric Theatre) using twice the longest available picture frame moulding with the joins covered by the brass name plates at top and bottom centres. The mural can be viewed upstairs at Ackworth Parish Rooms, Bell Lane.

1965 Cricket Match Ticket

This ticket for a fund raising cricket match at the Ackworth cricket ground features two very famous cricketers. Ray Illingworth was born in Pudsey. He played for Yorkshire, Leicestershire and England. Geoffrey Boycott was born in Fitzwilliam, he joined the Ackworth Cricket Club at the age of 10 and went on to play for Yorkshire and England.


Ackworth Youth Club Certificates 1962

These certificates were awarded to the young people of the Ackworth Youth Club which was held in the village hall. (Situated at the rear of the parish council building on Bell Lane.) Athletics and Netball were among many of the activities offered at the youth club.


1967 - Youth Club Membership Card

 

Membership card for the Youth Club which was run by St Cuthbert’s & All Saints Young Peoples Fellowship and held in the old school building at High Ackworth.


Ackworth Amateur Rugby League Club

In only 12 seasons Ackworth ARL won every cup in the Castleford and Wakefield leagues, reached the first round of the Rugby League Challenge Cup and produced such outstanding players as Featherstone Rovers captain and centre, John Newlove and Oldham scrum-half Mick McCone.
