Ackworth Station and Main Line
Those were the days! You could catch a train from Ackworth to York, Scarborough and Cleethorpes to name just a few destinations!
Sadly the station was demolished not long after these first 2 photos were taken by Harry Miles (Local Historian and Photographer).
The Goods Shed still stands and has been converted into two dwellings in recent years, but only the entrance to the Station car park remains on Station Road and a bungalow was built in the grounds of the old station.
Ackworth Station building was almost identical in design to Moorthorpe and Pontefract Baghill Stations, with Baghill having a longer centre section. A model of how Ackworth Station looked can been seen in transport section of our museum.

The Signal Box near Brackenhill Junction on the main York - Sheffield Line. This was the Junction with the Light Railway or Mineral Line which passed through the centre of Ackworth (now Dando's Way) to Brackenhill Goods Yard (now where Tarmac plant stands near Angel Inn) then on to Hemsworth Colliery at Fitzwilliam.
