Ackworth PramFest - History
In 1972, when Frederick Nicholls passed away, four years after his wife, leaving behind four children, the people of Ackworth rallied together to raise some money for them and so was born the Ackworth Pram Race.
Around £115 was raised from that inaugural event and the money was placed in trust until the children turned 18.
As with a lot of things, the pram race fell away but was resurrected again in 2015 by a group of local residents who wanted to give something back to the community.
In 2022, the Pram race was rebranded to the Ackworth PramFest to encapsulate the large event it has become with bands, rides and food and drink, as well as the race itself.
